I have sciatica, the nerve pain that runs from the lower back down through the hip and leg, so a good night’s sleep is already hard to come by. I’m not a doctor and none of this is medical advice. It’s one dad telling you what works for him.

The pillow is about my shoulders. I sleep face down unless I’ve got something that takes the weight off them, and of every pillow style I’ve slept on, the butterfly contour shape is the only one that does. It’s also the only one that doesn’t leave me waking up with a banged-up shoulder. With kids, there’s no sleeping it off. The day starts when they’re up, sore shoulder or not, so I care a lot about what my head is on for the few hours I get.

The Pick

What the Butterfly Shape Is

A butterfly contour pillow has a dip in the middle where your head sits, raised sections out to the sides, and a cut-in area PRYZALO calls an armrest, which gives your arm a place to rest beside your head.

That shape is the whole reason I’m writing this. It’s the style that works for my shoulder, and this is the pillow I’d point you to in that style.

What You Get With This One

  • Two heights in one pillow. Rotate it 180 degrees to switch sides. The high side is 4.13 inches, which PRYZALO pitches for side sleepers. The low side is 3.54 inches, pitched for back and stomach sleepers.
  • Slow-rebound memory foam. The listing says it takes 3 to 5 seconds to spring back, so it settles around your head and holds that shape.
  • A removable cover you can wash. It’s an ice silk fabric meant to stay cool, and it comes off for the washing machine. With kids in the house, a pillow you can’t wash doesn’t last long.

The Honest Part

This is a new listing. When I checked in October 2026, both listings had only a handful of reviews. That’s far short of what I usually want before recommending something here, and I’m telling you so you can weigh it yourself.

What I’m vouching for is the shape, from my own nights. PRYZALO’s own listing says it is not a medical device, and I’d say the same: a pillow can make sleeping more comfortable, but it doesn’t treat anything. If your sciatica is getting worse, or you’ve got numbness or weakness, go see a doctor.

Memory foam also comes down to personal feel. Check the return window on the listing before you order, so you’ve got an out if it doesn’t suit you.

Who Should Grab It

  • You end up sleeping face down because nothing else takes the weight off your shoulders.
  • You wake up with a sore shoulder and a flat pillow hasn’t helped.
  • You switch positions during the night and want one pillow with two heights instead of stacking or folding.
  • You want a cover you can throw in the wash after a kid ends up in your bed with a cold.
